Mass Transit Within San Francisco

Our area of the Presidio is served by San Francisco MUNI bus routes and by the Presidigo.

The Presidigo runs from the Embarcadero BART stop to the Transit Center in the Presidio during "rush hours" only. Please check their website to download the PDF for detailed route and schedule information. Get off at the Transit Center at the Main Post on Lincoln Boulevard. Walk west to Montgomery and turn left on Montgomery (with the row of red brick buildings on your right) and walk to Sheridan. Turn right onto Sheridan, cross Taylor Road, and Building 116 will be on your right.

29 (Sunset): As you reach the main post of the Presidio, ask the driver to let you off at the corner of Graham and Sheridan. Walk west from there along Sheridan (towards the row of red brick buildings), cross Montgomery and Taylor, and Building 116 will be on your right.

43 (Masonic): Get off at Letterman Digital Arts Center.

82X (Levi’s Plaza express) (rush-hour service) to the CalTrain station: Get off at the Main Post (Lincoln Boulevard at Montgomery). Walk down Montgomery (with the row of red brick buildings on your right) to Sheridan. Turn right onto Sheridan, cross Taylor Road, and Building 116 will be on your right.

The 41 (Union) and 45 (Union-Stockton): These buses serve downtown and drop you off at Lyon and Union streets, just a few blocks south of the Presidio’s Lombard gate. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the Lombard gate or Letterman Digital Arts Center to us in Building 116. (See the map).

From the Mission or Castro districts, take the 33 (Stanyan) to Haight Street, cross the street, and then board a 43 (Masonic) headed the other direction (east — the bus turns north onto Masonic).

From the south bay on CalTrain: The 45 Union and (at rush hour only) the 82X provide good connections from the 4th and King station.

From BART, get off at Powell Street station and take the 45 Union bus heading north up Stockton (Stockton is parallel to and one block east of Powell).

From the North Bay

Take highway 101 south across the Golden Gate Bridge.

From the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza continue on 101 and follow the signs for 101/Downtown and 101/Presidio for 1.5 miles.

Highway 101 (which becomes Doyle Drive) splits into Marina (to the left) and Downtown/Lombard (to the right). Veer to the right toward Downtown/Lombard.

From the Marina/Lombard split, follow 101/Doyle Drive to Downtown/Lombard for 1/2 mile. Get into the right hand lane and turn right onto Lombard as most of the road turns left to follow 101 South on Lombard.

Continue two blocks to Lyon and the gates to the Presidio (the Lombard gate) will be immediately in front of you.

From the East Bay

Take Interstate 80 west over the Bay Bridge.

Take the first exit - the Fremont Street exit and follow the exit to Front Street, turning left at the bottom of the ramp.

Front Street crosses Market Street - get into the left hand lane to immedately make a left onto Pine Street.

Pine Street is a timed-light street, so if you go about 30 mph, you should be able (traffic permitting) to move quickly across the city.

Follow Pine Street for about 3 miles and turn right on Presidio Avenue - you will be at the crest of a small hill. Go up Presidio Avenue to the Presidio gate

From the South Bay via Highway 280

Take Interstate 280 north to San Francisco

When Interstate 280 splits into Route 1 and 280, veer left, onto Highway 1 (19th Avenue).

Follow Highway 1 (19th Avenue) north across San Francisco. After you emerge from the tunnel, take the exit on the right (rather than following Highway 1 north as it merges onto 101 north, which feeds to the Golden Gate Bridge). This puts you one what is nominally 101 south (although you are in fact heading east).

The Presidio is on your right and the Exploratorium/Palace of Fine Arts is dead ahead. Follow 101 south toward Lombard Street (that is, don’t take the left-hand exit for the Marina).

From the South Bay via Highway 101

When Highway 101 splits into the Highway 80/Bay Bridge and Highway 101/Golden Gate Bridge approaches, veer left, onto Highway 101.

Follow the 101 north/Golden Gate Bridge turnoff and continue 1/4 mile to the Mission Street/101 north/Golden Gate Bridge exit. After exiting, turn right onto Mission Street. Continue two blocks to Van Ness.

Turn left onto Van Ness Avenue/101 north. Continue north for 2 miles to Lombard Street.

Turn left onto Lombard Street and continue 1 mile to Broderick. Immediately after the intersection of Lombard and Broderick, get in the left-hand turn lane (there will be signs to the Presidio).

Turn left onto Lombard (you will be turning left onto Lombard as the Lombard you turned off of becomes Richardson, after the Broderick intersection traffic signal). Continue two blocks to Lyon Street and continue through the Lombard gate (immediately in front of you) into the Presidio.

Once you’ve reached the Lombard gate at the Presidio...

Take Lombard Street into the Presidio until it ends at Presidio Boulevard. Bear right.

After one block, Presidio Boulevard turns into Lincoln Boulevard. However, just continue along Lincoln until you hit the main post (after you pass the fire station and post office).

Turn left onto Montgomery, where there will be a row of huge red brick buildings on your right and a large parking lot on your left. This is the "Main Post".

The first cross street after these buildings is Sheridan Avenue. Make a right onto Sheridan.

The first right is Taylor Avenue, you can turn in there to reach our parking lot behind our building. If the parking lot is full, please park in the Main Post and walk back to building 116. (see the detailed map of our neighborhood)
